TermDefinition
Thoracic Duct The largest lymphatic vessel, it drains lymph from most of the body into the left subclavian vein.
Clonal Selection The process by which a specific B or T cell is activated by an antigen and then rapidly multiplies to fight infection.
Active Artificial Immunity Immunity developed after intentional exposure to an antigen, such as through vaccination.
Renal Threshold The plasma concentration of at substance at which it begins to appear in the urine because the renal tubules can no longer reabsorb it efficiently.
Obligatory Water Reabsorption Water reabsorption that occurs in the proximal tubule, regardless of the body's hydration status, driven by solute movement.
The first phase of the menstrual cycle during which follicles in the ovary mature under the influence of FSH Follicular Phase
A spinal reflex that causes contraction of the bladder and relaxation of the internal urethral sphincter, leading to urination Micturition Reflex
Progesterone A hormone released by the corpus luteum that maintains the endometrial lining for possible implantation.
A physiological phenomenon where increased carbon dioxide or decreased pH reduces hemoglobin's affinity for oxygen enhancing oxygen delivery to tissues Bohr Effect
Respiratory Acidosis A condition caused by hypoventilation leading to increased carbon dioxide levels and decreased blood pH.
The body's first line of defense, a non specific immune response that includes barriers, inflammation, and phagocytes. Innate Immunity
Chemoreceptors ( In Respiration) Sensory receptors in the medulla and arteries that detect changes in blood carbon dioxide, pH, and oxygen, helping regulate breathing.
