| Articulations | Joint. Point of contact between bones |
| Symphyses | A joint in which a pad or disk of fibrocartilage connects two bones |
| Effectors | Organs, such as muscles or glands, that directly influence controlled physiological variables. |
| Homeostasis | Stability, balance, or equilibrium within a cell or the body. It is an organism’s ability to keep a constant internal environment. |
| Lipids | Water-insoluble organic bio-molecules. |
| Epithelial tissue | Covers and protects the body surface, lines body cavities, specializes in moving substances into and out of the body or particular organs (secretion, excretion, and absorption), and forms many glands. |
| Epiphyses | Proximal and distal ends of a long bone |
| Periosteum | White fibrous membrane that covers bone except at joint surfaces, where articular cartilage forms the covering. |
| Osteoclasts | Giant multinucleate cells ) that are responsible for the active erosion of bone minerals |
| T tubules | Allows electrical signals, or impulses, travel-ing along the sarcolemma to move deeper into the cell. |
