What are the Levels of Organization (smallest ---> largest) Atom, Molecule, Organelle, Cell, Tissue, Organ, Organ System, Organism.
Superior/Inferior Superior- Towards Head. Inferior- Towards feet.
Medial/lateral Medial-Towards midline. Lateral- Towards sides.
Sagittal Plane Dividing the body or any of its parts into right and left sides. (Equal right/left sides)
Elements “pure” cannot be broken down or decom-posed into two or more different substances. EX. Carbon and oxygen
Compounds Two or more elements are joined to form chemical combinations called compounds. Compounds can be broken down or decomposed into the elements that are contained within them. EX. Water (H2O).
Atomic Number / Atomic Mass Atomic Number: The number of protons in an atom’s nucleus. Atomic Mass: It equals the number of protons plus the number of neutrons in the atom’s nucleus.
Phases of Mitosis Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase.
A saline solution that contains a higher concentration of salt than a red blood cell would be? Hypertonic.
Myeloid Tissue Red bone marrow and is the soft, spongy tissue found in the hollow interior of bones.
Osteons Compact bone that contains many cylinder-shaped structural units. Run parallel to the long axis of bones.
Periosteum The dense, white fibrous membrane that covers bone except at joint surfaces.
