conjunction a word that joins two or more words, phrases, or clauses
direct object a noun phrase denoting a person or thing that is the recipient of the action
fragment an incomplete sentence that may or may not have meaning
indirect object a word that receives the actions that the verb makes on the direct object
interjection a word that expresses surprise or strong feelings
noun a word used to name people, places, or things
passive voice indicates the subject of a sentence is receiving the actions
phrase a group of related words with no subject or predicate
possessive noun a noun that shows ownership
predicate everything in a sentence said by to or about the subject
preposition a word that connects a noun or pronoun to other words in the sentence to form a phrase
pronoun a word used in the place of a noun
pronoun antecedent the noun or noun phrase that is replaced by a pronoun
sentence a group of related words that contains a subject and a predicate and expresses a complete thought
subject the person who is speaking the person who is spoken to or the person place or thing spoken about in a sentence
verb a word or phrase that expresses actions
verb tense indicates the time an action takes place
