OMAM Characters

Review of the characters from Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men

TermDefinition
Lennie One of the two main characters, he is mentally impaired and remarkably strong. He loves touching soft things, and he's a hard worker.
George One of the two main characters, he is caregiver to the other main character. He tells the story of their dream of a small farm, rabbits, and living their lives on their own terms. He lies about the two of them being cousins.
Candy Old and missing a hand, this character is responsible for cleaning the bunkhouse and outhouse. He buys into the dream of a farm, especially after his old sheepdog is shot.
Curley Son of the big boss and short in stature, this character is a boxer who picks fights with anyone bigger than he is.
Slim This character is the unofficial leader of all the ranch hands. He's a mule line skinner who takes his job and the care of his animals very seriously. He's the fount of wisdom for the other hands.
Carlson This character does not like stinky dogs and pushes to get rid of anything that is not useful. He owns a Luger pistol, which he uses to shoot an old dog.
Crooks One of two isolated characters, he is the stable buck for the ranch. He has a room in the barn all to himself, but is unwelcome in the bunkhouse. He gets his name from an injury he received when he was kicked by a horse.
Curley's Wife Isolated because of gender, this character dreams of being in "pitchers" and living a glamorous life with lots of clothes. Instead, life entails the loneliness and rigor of living on a ranch as the only one of a kind.
