Persuasive Speaking

Questions on aspects of persuasive speaking.

Rhetoric The art of communicating ideas.
Persuasive Rhetoric Rhetoric involving organising arguments to speak against of or in favour of an idea or action.
What are the 3 types of appeals in rhetoric? Logical, emotional, and ethical appeals.
Logical Appeals Rational arguments to support an author’s claim that is supported with objective evidence.
Emotional Appeals Appeals based on anecdotes or examples of potential threats and can contain loaded language which is rich in connotation and imagery.
Ethical Appeals Appeals based on shared moral values and plays into an audience’s sense of right and wrong.
What are the 3 styles of persuasion? Elevated language, rhetorical questions, and repetition.
Elevated Language The use of formal words and/or phrases to create a serious tone.
Rhetorical Questions Questions that don’t require answers or have very obvious answers to emphasise how obvious or correct an answer is.
