TermDefinition
Efficacy a measurement of how efficient the light source is in converting electrical energy to lumens of visible light. Measured in lumens per watt (LPW).
Footcandle a unit of light that falls on a surface one foot from a standard candle.
Glare excessive brightness from a light source which makes it difficult to see.
Kelvin the measurement scale used to determine the warmth or coolness of a lamp.
Lamp a glass envelope from which light is emitted, known as a lightbulb.
Lumen a unit of illuminance or light that falls on a surface. One lux is equal to one lumen per square foot.
Soffit a lowered portion of the ceiling which usually hides some construction detail such as pipes or heating and cooling ductwork.
Volt the force of electricity in a power line.
Watt a measurement of the amount of electricity used.
