Collectivism an emphasis on group work and accomplishments

Cultural sensitivity The willingness to adjust your options and behaviors so that you value people and ideas from other cultures
cultural The customs, habits, and traditions of a particular group of people
Diversity All the ways in which people differ
Ethnocentrism The belief that your own religion is naturally better than other cultures
Globalization The rapid and unimpeded flow of capital, labor, and ideas across national borders
Ignorance lack of knowledge or information
Individualism An emphasis on independent work and accomplishment's
Negotiation the process of one person reaching an agreement with another person to meet specific needs or wants
Nonverbal communication Communication that uses body language instead of words or to support words
Prejudice opinion or judgement that is based on a feeling or hearsay, rather than fact; bias
Primary dimensions of diversity inborn difference that can not be charged and affect a persons entire life; include such characteristics as age, race/ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, and certain physical and mental traits and abilities
Secondary dimensions of diversity Differences that may change at various points through ones lifetime; include such characteristic as language, religion, income , geographic location, family status , work experience , communication style , ad education level
Stereotype A set of image or an assumption about a person or thing
Subculture A secondary group within dominate culture
Valuing diversity openly acknowledging differences and believing that they are assists instead of pro
