The heart of a computer - Contains all of the parts of a computer and allows them to communicate with one another Motherboard
Called the "Brains" of a computer - Controls all of the other parts of the Computer. Usually located under a Heat-Sink Fan CPU (Microprocessor)
Volatile memory - data is lost when main power to computer is turned off RAM
RAM stands for Random Access Memory
Controls video graphics e.g animation, games and movies Video Card
Type of Video Card that is the post widely used bus for controlling peripheral devices PCI
PCI stands for Peripheral Component Interconnect
Type of Video Card that is a higher-speed alternative to PCI graphics display adapters AGP
AGP stands for Accelerated Graphics Port
Converts external power - regulates and distributes appropriate power throughout the PC Power Supply
An input and output device that stores program and data files used by a PC Hard Drive
Uses a light reader (laser) to record and store information, e.g. a DVD/CD-ROM R/W Optical Drive
Memory chips that come with instructions or data (such as Basic Input Output System or BIOS) programmed into them, normally not erasable by the user, and not lost when power is switched off ROM
ROM stands for Read Only Memory
