Millikan's Oil-Drop Experiment ** Measured the charge of the electron - Dropped oil into an electron field and measured the change in velocity to find the charge.
Rutherford's Gold Foil Experiment ** Discovered the positively charge atomic nucleus - Shot alpha particles at a pieces of gold foil, then measured the scattering with a sheet of zinc sulfide.
Stern-Gerlach Experiment ** Demonstrated that the angular momentum of an atom is quantized (spin). - Shot silver atom through a magnetic field at a screen.
Davisson-Germer Experiment ** Confirmed wave nature of electrons (de Broglie) - Shot electrons at a nickel crystal, then measured results with a Faraday box.
Gregor Mendel's Pea Plant Experiments ** Postulated the Law of Segregation and Independent Assortment (genetics) - Cross bred pea plants for various traits, making hybrids.
Hershey-Chase experiment ** Confirmed that DNA was the genetic carrier, not protein - Radio labeled DNA of bacteriophages, then let them infect E. coli and tracked the DNA.
Miller-Urey experiment ** Attempted to model how life could arise from the 'early Earth' atmosphere. - Reacted basic models with 'lightning strikes' and madel 20 amino acids
Meselson-Stahl experiment ** Proved DNA replication is semiconservative. - Grew E. coli in a Nitrogen-15 environment, then let it reproduce in an N-14 environment and tracked the N-15
