Flash cards for the mid terms/parts of computers internal and external

TermDefinition
What is input/an input device? Peripheral used to put information into the computer. A device that is used to put information into a computer.
What is output/an output device? Peripheral used to get information from a computer. A device that gets information from a computer.
What is a motherboard? Controls everything. All components required for the computer system are plugged into the motherboard.
CPU?(what does it stand for and what does it do?) Central Processing Unit-brains of the computer and controls the computers actions.
RAM?(what does it stand for and what does it do?) Random Access Memory-temporarily stores data, when turned off all data is automatically deleted, volatile/temporary storage-deleted when computer goes off.
ROM?(what does it stand for and what does it do?) Read Only Memory-bios is chip that contains instructions and commands to tell how to start up. Non-volatile/permanent memory.
What is the cooling used for? used to draw cooler air into the case form the outside.
Heat Sink? Metal device designed to absorb and disperse heat away from the CPU outfitted with built-in fans to help keep both the CPU and the heat sink at an appropriate temperature.
What are ports used for? Used to attach external peripherals to computer.
How many types of internal memory are there? Two-RAM & ROM
What is a keyboard used for? To type in information into a computer.
What is a mouse used for? To hover and click on things on the computer screen.
What is a Micro phone used for? To input sound into the computer.
what are Headphones used for? To listen to the sound that is coming from the computer without it being played out loud.
What is a Speaker used for? To play sounds coming from your computer out loud.
What is a USB used for? To store data that you can carry around.
