TermDefinition
What is homeostasis? The maintenance of a steady state within the body's physical and chemical environment.
The primary layers of the skin? Epidermis: the superficial thin layer. Dermis: the deep think layer.
Major groups of organic substances? Carbohydrates, Lipids, Proteins, Nucleic Acids and related Molecules.
Fluid mosaic model The different molecules that make up a cell membrane.
Osmosis the movement of water through a semipermeable membrane.
DNA A molecule that contains genetic information for an organism's development and function.
Four principles types of tissue Epithelial, Connective, Muscle, Nervous
Type of bone cells Osteoblast: Small cells that synthesize and secrete an organic matrix called osteoid. Osteoclasts: Giant multinucleate cells that's responsible for the active erosion of bone materials.
Axial Skeleton The central core of the body that supports and protects vital organs.
Appendicular Skeleton The supporting structure that connects limbs to the axial skeleton.
Function of muscles Movement , Heat Production, , Posture
Neuromuscular Junction A synapse that connects a motor neuron to a muscle fiber, enabling the motor neuron to control muscle contraction.
