What is the role of the integrator in a feedback loop? The integrator compares the actual value of a variable to its setpoint and sends signals to the effector if corrective action is needed.
What is an effector in a feedback loop? An effector is an organ or structure, like muscles or glands, that directly influences and adjusts the controlled physiological variable, such as temperature or heart rate.
What is the difference between pentose and hexose monosaccharides? Pentose monosaccharides contain five carbon atoms, while hexose monosaccharides contain six carbon atoms.
What is the most important monosaccharide in the human body, and what is its formula? The most important monosaccharide is glucose, with the formula C6H12O6.
What does it mean for a membrane to be selectively permeable? A selectively permeable membrane can control what substances pass through it and the direction and rate at which these substances move.
What is osmosis Osmosis is the movement of water through a semipermeable membrane from an area of lower solute concentration to an area of higher solute concentration.
What are the two types of epithelial tissue and where are they found? Membranous epithelium covers the body and lines organs; glandular epithelium forms glands.
What are the two primary layers of the skin? The two primary layers of the skin are the epidermis (superficial, thinner layer) and the dermis (deep, thicker layer).
