| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What is hovering? | Remaining in the same place the air motionless |
| What is ascending? | Rising (farther) up into the air |
| What is descending? | Lowering down toward the ground |
| What is yaw? | Rotating to the left or right in the air |
| What is pitching? | Tilting forward or backward in the air |
| What is rolling? | Tilting right or left in the air |
| What is the red bin for? | Put batteries that need charging here |
| What is the green bin for? | Put batteries that are charged here |
| What is to be done with a battery that is puffed up? | Batteries that are puffed up are to be taken to the teacher |
| When are drone batteries safe to throw away? | Drone batteries are hazardous and are NEVER to be put into the trash. They need to be taken to a special facility for disposal or recycling. |
| When should you put batteries in your drone? | Only put drone batteries in drones for flight, never while charging or for storing |
| What should you do with drone batteries just before flight for safety? | Be sure drone batteries are "clicked" in when installing them or they may fall out during flight |
| What should you do with batteries before servicing your drone? | Remove the batteries from drones before servicing to prevent the drone from turning on accidentally |
| How many sets of propellers does a quadcopter drone have? | It has 2 sets of two--As and Bs |
| What is special about drone propellers? | There are A propellers and B propellers, each is diagonally across from a matching one |
| How should you remove a propeller? | Always use the removal tool to take off a propeller blade, or the motor might become disconnected--breaking the drone |
| How should you put on a new propeller blade? | Match the letter on the new blade to the old one, and make sure there's a gap between the blade and the motor |
| What should you do after replacing the propeller blade for safety? | You should always make sure the propeller guard is reinstalled securely |
| Can the drones we use for class be used outside? | No, since they are not rated for outdoor use. They may be taken off course by the wind |
| Where can the drones be flown safely? | Class drones may only be flown in the Safe Fly Zone |
| Where can drone operators operate drones from? | Drone pilots may only control drones from just outside the Safe Fly Zone, not in it |
| What safety gear must be worn near the Safe Fly Zone? | Safety glasses, and if someone has long hair, then hair must be tied back around drones |
| When can the Safe Fly Zone be entered or crossed? | When there are no drones flying and when obstacles need to be changed or reset |
| Who may fly drones in class? | Students that have passed the safety test and that operate as a team |
| Why are drones flown by teams? | Drones are flown by teams so that work and observation can be cross-checked |
| What must teams USE before launching their drones? | Teams must use their "launch call" to warn everyone that a drone is about to be put into the air |
| What do pilots and teams need to do WHILE flying? | Teams need to keep eyes on their drone and avoid being distracted during flight |
| What are two things to NEVER do while trying to fly a drone? | NEVER fly over people and NEVER try to fly drones without ALL propellers and guards securely installed |
| What do teams need to do BEFORE launch? | Teams always do a pre-flight safety check, checking propellers, guards and batteries for secure installation and checking that there is a gap between the propellers and the motors |
