What is an information system? A combination of hardware, software, data, processes, and people that provides information to support decision-making, coordination, and control within an organization.
What are the five components of an information system? 1. Hardware 2. Software 3. Data 4. Process 5. People
What are the three organizational levels and corresponding information systems? 1. Strategic-level systems 2. Management-level systems 3. Operational-level systems
What is an Executive Support System (ESS)? A system designed to help senior management make strategic decisions by gathering and summarizing key internal and external information.
What is the purpose of a Transaction Processing System (TPS)? To efficiently and accurately process routine transactions, such as billing systems and payroll systems
What is the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC)? A multi-step process for developing information systems from investigation through analysis, design, implementation, and maintenance.
Name two traditional SDLC models and their characteristics. 1. Waterfall Model: Sequential and plan-driven, suitable for large projects 2. V-Model: Sequential with verification and validation, suitable for small to medium projects
What is the Spiral Model? A continuous process emphasizing risk analysis and suitable for complex, high-risk projects.
What is the Rational Unified Process (RUP)? An iterative, object-oriented software development process framework with four phases: Inception, Elaboration, Construction, and Transition.
What is a prototype in the Prototyping Model? An early approximation of a system that is tested and reworked until an acceptable final product is developed.
