Key terms of research

TermDefinition
Research Deign A strategy for answering a research question or practical issue
Survey A method of gathering data to find out about the characteristics, preferences, opinions, or beliefs of a group of people
Interview ( information Interview) A method useful for gathering more in depth information on people's opinions and preferences by documenting and categorizing the responses
Focus Group A small group of participants who share their feelings or perceptions on a particular topic
Case Study A detailed study of specific subject in its real world context. It can focus on a person, group, event, or organization.
Primary Source An original object o document or first hand information, source material that is closest to what is being studied
Secondary source Generally scholarly books and articles that interpret or analyze primary sources
APA The style of documentation of sources used by the American Psychological Association used for writing research papers in the social sciences line psychology, anthropology, and other education fields
MLA The style of documentation of the Modern Language Association used to write a research paper for English Composition and other communication classes.
Plagiarism The failure to property quote, paraphrase, and cite sources in a research paper or presentation
Annotated Bibliography A list of sources (books, journals, websites, images, etc.) used for researching a topic along with a summary, evaluation, or reflection of the resource.
