Art 1 Line Vocab

Structural lines The lines that hold a design together.
Outline Generally the outer edge of a silhouette, or the line made by the edges on an object.
Contour lines Describes the shape of an object and includes interior detail.
Gesture lines A continuous flow of line or lines that emphasize direction and fluidity.
Sketch lines The most detail-providing of all, sometimes having a finished appearance and often giving an appearance of depth.
Calligraphy Precise, elegant handwriting or hand-written lettering that oftentimes varies between thick and thin everywhere throughout.
Line personality The general characteristics of a line, used to convey a specific mood or feeling
Implied lines Suggested lines (lines that were not actually drawn) in the artwork.
Line of sight An imaginary line from a figure's eyes to a viewed object.
