Photosynthesis

and Cellular respiration

TermDefinition
NADPH found in cellular respiration, carries electrons and is made in the first two steps, used in the third step
Adenosine Triphosphate cluster of proteins that span the cell membrane and allow hydrogen ions(H+) to pass through it. Energy molecule
lactic acid the build-up of carbon dioxide in your muscles/combination of two CO2 molecules
Fermentation the process by which cells release energy in the absence of oxygen
Krebs cycle the second stage of cellular respiration in which pyruvic acid is broken down into carbon dioxide in a series of energy-extracting reactions
pyruvic acid the end product of glycolysis
conversion stage in cellular respiration, intermediate step between glycolysis and the citric acid cycle (steps 1 and 2) pyruvic acid to the mitochondria
Glycolysis First set of reactions in cellular respiration in which a molecule of glucose is broken into two molecules of pyruvic acid
Anaerobic process that does not require oxygen
Aerobic process that requires oxygen
cam plants keeps stomata closed during hot and dry days to keep water in cacti and pineapple are examples of these
Photosynthesis process used by plants and other autotrophs to capture light energy and use it to power chemical reactions that convert carbon dioxide and water into oxygen and energy rich carbohydrates such as sugars and starches (CO2)
Calvin cycle light independent reactions of photosynthesis in which from ATP and nadph is used to build high energy compounds such as sugar
electron transport chain series of electron carrier proteins that shut the high energy electrons during ATP generating reactions
photo systems cluster of chlorophyll and proteins found in thylakoids
light independent reactions set of reactions in photosynthesis that do not require light; energy from ATP and nadph is used to build high energy compounds such as sugar; also called the Calvin cycle
light dependent reaction set of reactions in photosynthesis that use energy from light to produce ATP and nadph
Stroma fluid portion of the chloroplast; outside of the thylakoids
Thylakoids sac-like photosynthetic membranes found in chloroplasts
Chlorophyll principal Pigment of plants and other photosynthetic organisms

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
