| word | Definition |

| Chainé | A series of traveling turns which create a "chain" of movement |
| Echappé | To escape. To slide the legs apart from a closed position to a open position. |
| En dedan | Turning inward. Counterclockwise, to ward the inside. |
| Faillí | Giving away. A simple fleeting movement which usually links steps together. |
| Frappé | Strike of the foot. |
| Glissade | To glide.A traveling step executed by gliding the working foot from fifth position in the required direction, the other foot closing to it. |
| Pas de chat | Step of the cat. |
| Sauté | Jumped or jumping. When this term is added to a step the movement is jumping. |
| Sissone | A jump in which both feet push off the floor into variety of positions. The landing is one or both feet. |
| Soutenu | a sustained turn which the legs unwind |
