King Midas and Pandora

TermDefinition
Mythology a type of literature that explains a natural phenomenon, such as how water falls or the wind blows; it has supernatural events with gods and goddesses.
Character flaw A character's trait that causes a problem or downfall, such as greed or excessive curiosity
Symbol an object, character, or setting that represents an idea, such as gold representing human's greed
Turning point a character's decision changes the direction of the story or his life's outcome
Situational irony the unexpected situation or event happens
Inner conflict a struggle or problem that bothers or concerns a character
Archetype a pattern for a character, such as hero, mentor, wise old man, and villain
Theme a lesson or main idea of a story
Dualism the contrast between two sides of something, often with opposite meanings
Supernatural elements magical situations, such as the King Midas' golden touch
Organizational patterns ways to sequence information, such as compare/contrast, cause/effect, and problem/solution
King Midas learns a lesson about greed and contentment
Pandora learns a lesson about following directions and controlling curiosity
Foreshadowing clues or hints of future events
