Entrepreneur/ Skills and Charactersitics

| Enterprise | Enterprise is any attempt to start or do something new. Enterprise is about turning ideas into actions. Example: Starting a club or society in school. |
| Entrepreneur | Is someone who spots a gap in the market. They use their initiative and take both a personal and financial risk in starting a business/venture with the aim of making a profit. Example: Steve Jobs (Apple), Aimee Connolly (Sculpted by Aimee) |
| Enterprise at home: | Carrying out DIY to decorate or improving your home. |
| Enterprise at school: | Setting up a new club or society |
| Enterprise in the community: | Setting up a tidy towns committee |
| Enterprise in the government: | They set up Coillte to help develop Irish Forests. |
| Skills | A skill is something you learn to do over a period of time. It is the ability to do something well as a result of training, experience and practice. Examples: Teamwork, Communication |
| Characteristics | A characteristic is a quality a person is born with, which describes the type of person they are. Examples: Creative, Risk Taker |
| Intrpreneur | This is a person (employee) within an existing business who is enterprising. E.g. Post-it Notes were invented by an employee of the 3M Company, Arthur Fry. |
| Risk of being an Entrepreneur | Working long hours, lose money you invested, reputation can be on the line. |
| Rewards of being an Entrepreneur | Can keep some or all of the profit made, flexible work hours, sense of achievement. |
| Role of an entrepreneur in an organsisation | Generate ideas, take risks, provide leadership and management, Create long-term plans, raise finances, provide motivation. |
