Hardware 1

QuestionAnswer
Central Processing Unit The CPU is hardware that is considered the "brain" of the computer. It is primarily responsible for executing instructions and performing calculations.
Handheld device A pocket-sized computing device. Example: Personal Digital Assistants (PDA) like the Palm Pilot.
Hard drive A device for storing information in a fixed location within the computer. The equivalent of a filing cabinet in an office, the hard drive is used for storing programs and files.
Hardware The physical parts of the computer: Central processing unit, disk drive, CD-ROM drive, keyboard, monitor, mouse, speakers, and keyboard.
Input device Any device within the computer system that allows for information to flow INTO the computer.  Example: mouse, microphone, and keyboard.
Modem A communication device that allows the computer to receive information over a telephone or cable line.
Output device Any device which allows information to flow OUT of the computer. Examples: monitor, speakers, and printer.
