Network #13
From 7 [converged networks]
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Convergence | How we integrate multiple networks into one network. Aka "All IP" network. Features smart terminals, battery and energy efficiency, and flexible service creation |
| Cloud Computing | Computing resources or storage resources that are accessible and can be used via networks |
| Public Cloud | Done via the internet, a public network where everyone can access. Lowers network costs, better access from remote locations, leverage various cloud computing providers |
| Private Cloud | An organization creates a private cloud by establishing its own IP-based cloud infrastructure, exclusively for its use and not shared with others. Benefits: Control over the infrastructure and security posture |
| Streaming stored audio/video | Files are encoded and stored on a server. End-users listen/view files right after requesting. Ex. Netflix |
| Streaming live audio/video | A user listens to broadcast audio and video through the internet. Ex. Internet radio, event live streaming |
| Interactive Real-Time multimedia | People use the internet to interactively communicate with one another. Ex. video conferencing |
| Real-Time Transport Protocol(RTP) | For real-time audio and video, data must be delivered in the same time relationship as they were created. RTP works with Real-time Control Protocol(RTCP) to manage real-time data traffic |
| Session Initiation Protocol(SIP) | Protocol devised by IETF to be used with RTP/RTCP. SIP provides the signaling to set up, maintain, and tear down real-time transport |
| Risks of Mobile Computing | Easy to have information stolen or inappropriately accessed |
| Virtual Private Networks(VPN) | VPN establishes a point-to-point IP-based tunnel and encapsulates and encrypts payloads. It's called "virtual" because it's not a telecom provider's private WAN service. |
| VPN tunnel | Putting one IP packet inside another. Outer packet uses public addresses (to and from). Inner packet keeping the original addresses (to and from) |
