QuestionAnswer
What is homeostasis? The body maintaining a relatively constant state within despite the external environment changing.
What is a feedback loop? A homeostatic control mechanism where information is transmitted by nervous impulses or hormones.
What are the four major groups of organic substances in the human body? Carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids
What are the four major tissue types? Epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous
The skin, or cutaneous membrane, is made of what 2 layers? The epidermis and the dermis.
What is the hypodermis? The subcutaneous layer, or superficial fascia. The layer is deep to the dermis and is a layer between skin and the rest of the body.
What are the five things bones do to maintain homeostasis? Provide support, protection, assist with movement, store minerals, and hematopoiesis, the formation of red blood cells.
What are the two types of cartilage growth? Interstitial growth and appositional growth
What are the three classes of joints according to the amount of movement they allow? synarthroses (immovable), amphiarthroses (slightly movable), and diarthroses (freely movable)
What are the three general functions of muscles? Movement, heat production, and posture.
