Cabin Pressurization

QuestionAnswer
What information is input into the cabin pressure controller? Cabin altitude, rate of cabin altitude change, barometric pressure.
Regulator controls the position of? Outflow valve.
How many and where are the cabin pressure controllers located? 2 controllers or 1 with redundancy are located in the electronic equipment bay.
The controllers process the information and send electric signals to? motors that directly position the outflow valve(s).
What mode can be used on the ground for maintenance and in the air when a failure of auto mode occurs? Manual.
With what means is the outflow valve operated? Pneumatic and electronic.
Outflow valves that combine the use of electricity with pneumatic operation have all-pneumatic operation in what modes? Manual and standby.
How is the outflow valve operated in manual and standby mode in transport category aircraft? DC Motors.
How is the outflow valve operated in transport category aircraft during normal operation? AC motors.
If control of the pressurization is lost what can occur? Cabin over pressurization.
At what pressure do safety valves open? 8-10 psi.
Safety valve can be a singular unit how else can the safety valve be oriented in the aircraft? Incorporated into the outflow valve.
___________ ______________ _____________ close the outflow valves when cabin pressure decreases to prevent cabin altitude increasing out of acceptable range. Cabin altitude limiters.
What prevents the air pressure outside of the aircraft becoming greater than the pressure inside? Negative pressure relief valve.
The following can cause structural damage and difficulty and opening the door Negative differential pressure.
How is air moved quickly out of the aircraft in abnormal, manual or emergency situation. Dump valve.
Pressurization dump valves operate automatically or? Manually by a switch in the cockpit.
What controls the operation of the dump valve? WOW or squat switch.
Emergency pressurization mode controlled by a switch in the cockpit when AC packs fail direct _____ and/or _______ _____ and fully close the ____________ _________ to maintain pressure in the cabin. Ram, bleed air, outflow valve.
What flight deck cabin pressurization indications are available to the aircrew in the cockpit? Cabin altimeter, Cabin rate of climb, Cabin differential indicators.
Other than traditional indicating gauges what other means of indicating is available? Engine Indicating and Crew Alerting System (EICAS) or Electronic Centralized Aircraft Monitor (ECAM)
What is the normal mode of operation? Automatic mode.
If automatic and standby mode valve how can cabin pressurization be controlled? Manual mode.
Where is the weight on wheels switch located? Landing gear.
What is a source of air for the pressurization system? High pressure compressor.
What does the wow switch control? Pressurization safety valve.
___________ _____________ __________ causes a partial closing of the outflow valve(s) when the WOW switch is closed and the throttles are advanced gradually initiates pressurization during rollout. At takeoff, Throttle position switches.
Why do we pressurize aircraft? Keep passengers alive at high altitude and prevent hypoxia.
What prevents rapid decompression? Shut of valve.
What type of air is considered safe for cabin pressurization? Compressor bleed air.
How is cabin pressure expressed? Cabin altitude.
What is the purpose of the dump valve? Relieve positive pressure.
What component prevents cabin altitude from becoming higher the actual altitude? Negative pressure relief valve.
Pressurization on the ground is restricted by the? WOW
ATA code for pressurization? 21
ATA code for pneumatics? 36
ATA code for APU? 49
Outflow valves are operated by electric motors TRUE/FALSE? TRUE
Safety valve is operated by a separate controller TRUE/FALSE? FALSE
What specially shaped air restriction is used to transfer air around the aircraft? Venturi.
What is the max cabin altitude for transport category aircraft? 8000ft
