| MX | Mail Exchange, identifies a mail server. linked to A/AAAA record of a mail server |
| CNAME | Canonical Name (alias) lets a single system have multiple names associated with a single ip address |
| SOA | Start of Authority record, has information about the dns zone and settings |
| DNSSEC | Domain Name System Security Security Extensions, validates dns responses. helpful against dns poisoning. |

| dig | domain information groper, dns troubleshooting on linux |
| Well-known Ports | 0 - 1023; common protocols |
| Registered Ports | 1024 - 1049, 151; ports for companies |
