Digital Divide

vocabulary words based around the digital divide

TermDefinition
Digital Divide The gap between individuals; households; businesses; and geographic areas at different socio-economic levels in terms of access to; use of; or knowledge of information and communication technologies (ICT).
Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Information technology (IT) that stresses the role of unified communications and the integration of telecommunications computers; and necessary enterprise software; which enable users to access; store; transmit; and manipulate information.
Access Gap The disparity between those who have access to digital technologies and those who do not; often influenced by factors such as economic status; geographic location; and education.
Skill Gap The differences in the ability to use digital technologies effectively; often resulting from variations in education; training; and experience with technology.
Socio-Economic Status The social standing or class of an individual or group; often measured as a combination of education; income; and occupation; which can significantly affect access to digital technologies.
Digital Literacy The ability to use information and communication technologies to find; evaluate; create; and communicate information; requiring both cognitive and technical skills.
Broadband Infrastructure The physical and organizational structures needed to provide high-speed internet access to end-users; including technologies like fiber optics; DSL; and satellite communications.
