Biochemical pathways involved in the breakdown of glucose: glycolysis, citric acid cycle, electron transport chain
Where does glycolysis occur in the cell? cytoplasm
metabolism: all the chemical reactions that occur in the cell
Metabolic pathway: a series of enzymatic reactions that result in the synthesis/ breakdown of a chemical substrate
enzyme substrate: the reactants participating in a chemical reaction
cellular respiration: in eukaryotic cells, mitochondria convert the chemical energy of glucose into ATP
electron transport chain: the part of cellular respiration that involves high energy electrons passed through a series of carriers that harvest their energy to make ATP
fermentation: the anaerobic process in human cells that breaks down glucose and produces lactate as a product
Nutrient: the required component of food that preforms a physiological function in the body
Where does the citric acid cycle take place in the cell? mitochondrial metrix
what to HLDs do? transport cholesterol to the liver
Major Mineral: if a person requires more than 100mg a day of a certain mineral
Trace mineral: if a person requires less than 100mg a day of a certain mineral
