The Giver Vocabulary

This is a set of flashcards to study for the English test on vocabulary words.

TermDefinition
Palpable Like you can touch it, a strong feeling.
Nurturer Someone who takes care of a baby. A nurse of caregiver.
Aptitude The ability you're born with, a talent.
Chortled Chuckled, laughed
Dosage The amount of liquid you consumed. This term is usually used when referring to having medicine.
Buoyancy The ability to float.
Retroactive To refer to events that happened previously.
Crescendo A gradual increase, usually in sound. Orchestras use crescendos to help smoothly increase the dynamics.
Benign Kind and gentle
Anguish To suffer mentally.
Meticulously Carefully carrying out a task.
Deftly To move skillfully and carefully.
Admonition When an authoritative counsel warns you of something.
Mutilated A disfigured injury.
Sinuous Something that curves and bends very often.
Writhing Squirming and twisting uncomfortably.
Placidly To do something peacefully.
Carnage To kill many people.
Ecstatic Expressing happiness strongly.
Obsolete No longer used; out of date.
Permeated To spread through a substance, most likely air in the form of a scent.
Imploringly To say something in a pleadful manner, begging.
Rueful A way to show regret but with humor.
Tantalizing Teasing someone about something that they cannot obtain; just out of reach.
Lethargy Opposite of ecstatic; showing no enthusiasm.
