Formalism: a formal analysis that considers the aesthetic (artistic) elements of a work separate from context (focuses on medium and technique)
Contextualism: analyzes what is outside the work
Content: the subject matter of the work
Medium: the material from which an art object is made
Technique: the systematic procedure whereby a creative task is performed
Representational Art: true to human perception and presents a likeness of the world as it appears to the naked eye.
Abstract Art: presents a subjective view of the world, the artist's emotions or ideas
Primary colors: red, blue, yellow
Secondary Colors: orange (red & yellow), green (yellow & blue), purple (red & blue)
Depth the apparent distance from front to back or near to far in an artwork
Highlighting highlights the areas on an object where light is hitting that object
