Homeostasis | Definition of staying the same. |
Afferent | A signal is traveling toward a particular center or point of reference, |
Efferent | A signal is moving away from a center or other point of reference |
Peptide Bond | One that binds the carboxyl group of one amino acid to the amino group of another amino acid. |
ATP ( Adenosine triphosphate) | A very important molecule which is composed of an adenine and ribose sugar to which are attached a string of three phosphate groups |
Matrix | Extracellular material which covers the tissue regardless of their shape, size and arrangement of cells. |
Connective Tissue | Is one of the most widespread and diverse tissues in the body and is found in or around nearly every organ of the body. |
Cutaneous Membrane | A sheetlike organ that cov-ers the body and acts as a barrier between the internal and external environment. |
Frition Ridges | The underlying dermal papillae which are raised in curving parallel under thick skin |
Hematopoesis | Blood cell formation, is a vital process carried on by red bone marrow, or myeloid tis-sue. |
Metaphysis | The region between the epiphyses and di-aphysis (in a mature bone) or the epiphyseal plate region |
Coxal | Large hip bone (pelvic bone); with the sacrum and coccyx, forms the basinlike pelvic cavity; lower extremities attached to the axial skeleton by the coxal bones |
Myofibrils | bundles of very fine cytoskeletal fila-ments that extend lengthwise along a skeletal muscle fiber and al-most fill the sarcoplasm. |
