| sarcoplasmic reticulum | network of tubules and sacs that acts as a temporary storage for Ca++ ions. |
| neuromuscular junction | Also known as a synapse. Is a type of connection with a narrow gap that neurotransmitters travel to transmit a signal. |
| ATP | molecule that transfers energy from fuel molecules to working molecules. |
| homeostasis | the maintenance of relatively constant condition within the body. |
| dendritic skin cells | Also known as Langerhans cells. Branched antigen-presenting cells that marks invaders and pathogens for destruction. |
| arrector pili | involuntary muscles attached to hair follicle. causes hair to "stand up" in response to stimuli. Also causes goose bumps. |
| epiphyseal plate | layer of cartilage between epiphysis and diaphysis of a bone. allows for bone growth |
| osteoblasts | synthesize and secret bone matrix, responsible for creation of bone. |
| osteoclasts | erode and break down bone, responsible for recycling of bone. |
| motor neuron | nerve cell responsible for muscle contraction, connect to sarcolemma forming the neuromuscular junction. |
