sarcoplasmic reticulum network of tubules and sacs that acts as a temporary storage for Ca++ ions.
neuromuscular junction Also known as a synapse. Is a type of connection with a narrow gap that neurotransmitters travel to transmit a signal.
ATP molecule that transfers energy from fuel molecules to working molecules.
homeostasis the maintenance of relatively constant condition within the body.
dendritic skin cells Also known as Langerhans cells. Branched antigen-presenting cells that marks invaders and pathogens for destruction.
arrector pili involuntary muscles attached to hair follicle. causes hair to "stand up" in response to stimuli. Also causes goose bumps.
epiphyseal plate layer of cartilage between epiphysis and diaphysis of a bone. allows for bone growth
osteoblasts synthesize and secret bone matrix, responsible for creation of bone.
osteoclasts erode and break down bone, responsible for recycling of bone.
motor neuron nerve cell responsible for muscle contraction, connect to sarcolemma forming the neuromuscular junction.
