Grammar Knowledge Quiz Revision

TermDefinition
a cognate is a word that I can recognise... because it looks similar to a word in a language I already speak
a noun is... the name of something (e.g. car/ dog/ sister/ brother)
an adjective is... a word that describes something (e.g. red/ small/ funny/ kind)
a verb... tells you what someone is doing (e.g. playing/ walking/ talking)
in French all nouns are either... masculine or feminine
in English adjectives... come before the word they are describing (e.g. blue car/ brown dog)
in French adjectives... go after the word they are describing (e.g. chien blanc/ chat noir)
in French adjectives work... like they do in Welsh (ci gwyn/ cath du)
le / un tell us a noun is... masculine
la/ une tell us a noun is... feminine
many adjectives have an "e" on the end if describing... a feminine noun (e.g. grande = tall)
"avoir" means to have
singular pronouns are... I, you, he, she
plural pronouns are... we, you all, they
j'ai I have
tu as you have
il a he has
elle a she has
un chien a dog
un chat a cat
un cheval a horse
un chien gris a grey dog
un chat gris a grey cat
j'ai un cheval gris I have a grey horse
j'ai un oiseau blanc I have a white bird
