Term | Definition |
---|---|
Specification | A statement at the top of the input panel that specifies the purpose of the program (written as a comment). |
Documentation | A description of all the available libraries for your reference. |
Library | A collection of predefined functions. |
Important Statement | Using the keyword import followed by the name of the library being imported. Once the library is important into the code, the programmer can use any function defined in that library. |
Hanging Indent | Formatting of a paragraph, citation, or definition for which all lines except the first idented. |
Header | The specification, name, and date, and, import statement. |
Body | Where the actual code is. (must include program). |
Intergrated | Everything needed to write and run your code is put together with a consistent look and feel. |
Development | Short for software development (designing program to solve a problem) |
Enviorment | The window can be maximized and nothing else is needed to run the code. |
Editor | The large window where we type our code (on the left). |
Line Numbers | The number at the beginning of each line. |
Run | After we type in our code, we click the, "Run" button to execute the program. |
Output Panel | Shows the end result of a successful code (top right). |
Console | This box contains error messages (bottom right). |
Editor Keys | A button that when clicked displays a list of shortcut keys. |
Comments | Begin with two dashes and a space (--); they mark lines that are ignored by the computer; for comments with several lines use comment. |
Definitions | Have an equal sign separating the word that's being defined at the left of the equal sign from the right of the equal sign. |
Key Words | Special words that are used to modify the way a computer program works (boldface) |
Program | The line of the code that's activated when you click the "Run" button. |
Identifiers | Names of variables or functions. |
Operators | Math symbols |
Literal Data | Includes numbers such as I or text that's enclosed in double quotes like "CHUCK WAGON" |
