Hardware The physical parts of the computer
Operating system A type of system software that enables a computer to operate
Megabyte 1 million bytes
Menu A set of options used to issue commands to a computer
Dialog Box A window that requires the user to provide additional information
Thin Client A PC designed to access a network for processing and storing data instead of preforming these tasks locally
Web browser A program used to view Web pages.
Petabyte Approximatley 1,000 terabytes
Unicode An international coding system for text-based data using any written language
Barcode reader An input device that reads barcodes
RFID tag A devie containing a tiny chip and radio antenna that is attached to an object so that it can be identified by RFID technology
Motherboard The main circuit board of the computer,located inside the computer.
CPU Central Processing unit The chip locates inside the computer that preforms the processing of the computer
Quad-core CPU A CPU that contains 4 separate processing cores
Volatile Describes a medium whose content is erased when the power is shut off.
Cache memory A group of fast memory chip located on or near the CPU to help speed up processing
RAM(random access memory) Chips connected to the motherboard that provide a temporary location for the computer to hold data and program instuctions while they are needed.
Output device A piece of hardware that presents the results of processing in a form the user can understand
Pixel The smallest colorable area in an electronic image
Storage medium The part ofthe storage system where the data is stored, such as a DVD device.
