disaccharide any class of sugars whose molecules contain two monosacharide residues
carbohydrate A carbohydrate is a biomolecule consisting of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen atoms
lipids any of a class of organic compounds that are fatty acids or their derivatives and are insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents
glycerol a naturally occurring alcohol., an odorless liquid used as a solvent, sweetening agent, and medicine
phospholipids a class of lipids whose molecule has a hydrophilic "head" containing a phosphate group and two hydrophobic "tails" derived from fatty acids, joined by an alcohol residue
phenylketonuria a rare inherited disorder that causes an amino acid called phenylalanine to build up in the body

cellular respiration the process by which biological fuels are oxidized in the presence of an inorganic electron acceptor, such as oxygen, to drive the bulk production of adenosine triphosphate
allosteric effector a molecule that binds to the site of an allosteric enzyme, causing a change in configuration resulting in an increase (positive effector) or reduction (negative effector) in enzyme activity
electron transport system a series of protein complexes and other molecules that transfer electrons from electron donors to electron acceptors via redox reactions and couples this electron transfer with the transfer of protons across a membrane
diffusion the net movement of anything generally from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
