The main passage | Formed by orthostats (upright stones), 22 on west side and 21 on east side. |
The chamber | Roughly 6m in diameter and 6m tall. Three recesses, form cruciform plan. Each recess has basin stone which contained ash from human cremations. |
Wall of white quartz and grey granite stones | Quartz came from Wicklow, 85km away. Granite came from Dundalk Bay, 50 km away. |
Kerbstones | 97 kerbstones. They are greywacke stone, had to be transported by boat or raft along coast and up the Boyne River. |
The Great Circle | Ring of standing stones that surround the mound, 7 - 12 metres outside it. Only 12 remain of original 35. May be more modern than mound, perhaps from Bronze Age. |
Entrance Stone | One of the biggest kerbstones, line in middle. Has spirals and lozenges. |
Kerbstone 52 | Opposite side to entrance stone, also has line in centre. Has spirals, lozenges, arcs and ovals with three cup marks inside. |
