| Pale lips | Blood or Yang deficiency |
| Red and dry lips | SP/ST-Heat |

| Mouth always slightly open | Empty pattern |
| Breathing always through mouth only | LU-Qi deficiency |
| Green color around mouth | LR-Qi stagnation or LR-Blood stasis |
| Teeth | Extension of Bones thereby KD health |
| Gums | ST health |
| Swollen and maybe bleeding gums | ST-Heat, but if w/ no pain is Empty-Heat |
| Pale gums | Blood deficiency |
| Moist teeth | Body fluids healthy and KD healthy |
| Dry teeth | Fluid exhaustion and KD-Yin deficiency |
| Teeth bright and dry like stone | YM-Heat (exterior) |
| Dry and gray teeth like bones | Empty-Heat from KD-Yin deficiency |
| Bleeding teeth | Extreme ST-Heat |
| Painful throat with redness and swelling | Wind-Heat (EPF) - acute ST-H - chronic |

| Erosion, redness and swelling of pharynx | Toxic-Heat (mostly in children w/ acute respiratory infection) |
