This holiday celebrates the deliverance of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. This namesake Seder is a dinner, in which the food represents different aspects of the namesake story. A book known as Haggadah is read during this holiday. Passover
This holiday, also known as Pentecost, marks the giving of the Torah atop mt. Sinai. During this holiday its customary to consume dairy, read the book of Ruth, and stay up all night studying the Torah. Shavuot
The Jewish new year festival, it is the first day of the High Holies/high holy days. A special prayer service is held, and a shofar is played. Food served consist/ of pomegranate, fish heads, challah bread, and apples dipped in honey Rosh Hashanah
This is the holiest day of the year, it is a day of fasting and prayer. There are 6 prohibitions and 5 services. (More detail on carter’s notes) Yom Kippur
This holiday commemerates the 40 years the israelites spent in the desert on their way to the promised land. It comes 5 days after Yom Kippur, and is celebrated by dwelling in a foliage covered booth, or Sukkah, And taking the 4 kinds Sukkot
Celebrates the rededication of the Holy temple. A small band of Jewish Revoltees, lead by Judah & Maccabe, reclaimed the holy temple. There was only enough oil to light the candelabra for 1 day, but it lasted for 8 days. Dreidels and gelts. Hanukkah
Rattles/Groggers are shaken everytime a certain man’s name is said. Gift baskets/misloach manot are given out. Hamantash and wine are consumed. Wine is consumed until the 2 terms “cursed haman” and “blessed mordechai” are indistinguishable Purim
Celebrates the freeing of the Israelites from Egypt. The lyric “It would have been enough” or “Dayenu” is repeated. People read from the Haggadah While observing traditions, like the 4 questions. Matzah balls are consumed. Passover
