---|---|
PAVE | Pilot (IMSAFE, SMILE) Aircraft (ATOMATO FLAMES, ARROW, AVIATES) EnVironment (MCPRAWN, NWKRAFT) External (Passengers, SAFETY) |
Types of Hypoxia | A B C D Hypoxic: Altitude Hypemic:Loss of Blood Stagnant: Lack of Circulation Histotoxic: Drugs |
Engine Description of C-152 | Lycoming, Horizontally opposed, Air Cooled, Normally aspirated, direct Drive, 4 cylinder, 4 stroke |
What is the 4 stroke cycle? | Intake, Compression, power, exhaust |
How is the C-152 fuel system fed? | Gravity Fed |
What does the throttle control? | Controls the amount of air in the mixture |
What does the Mixture Control? | Controls the amount of Fuel |
What does the alternator do? | Produces AC current and converts to BC for system use |
what does a turbocharger do? | A turbocharger compresses the engine's intake air to maintain sea-level takeoff manifold pressure and full, rated power up to the engine's critical altitude |
How does a turbocharger work? | It uses exhaust gas to turn a turbine useful at high altitudes, runs of waste exhaust gas |
How does a supercharger work? | it's driven by the engine's crankshaft, and it's usually connected with a belt or chain, requires engine power to run |
What does a supercharger do? | forced induction mechanically driven direct connection to the engine, can compress air to create a greater mass, proportionally creating a greater mass of fuel. Significantly increases the power production |
What instruments feed off of the Pitot static system? | VSI(Static), Altitude indicator (Static), Airspeed indicator(Pitot and Static) |
What is a Kollsman Window? | The altimeter, one where you can adjust for the atmospheric pressure |
What is the equation for Density Altitude? | DA = PA + [120 x (OAT - ISA)] |
What is absolute Altitude? | AGL Above Ground Level |
What is Oscillation Error? | Oscillation error is the movement of the compass card inside the compass fluid, caused by turbulence or maneuvers |
What is static stability? | The initial tendency an object has to retain its position in space |
What is Dynamic Stability? | Tendency to return to stability after equilibrium is disrupted overtime |
What is Torque turning tendency? | Torque creates an opposite reaction form the direction of the propeller, causing the body of the plane to want to roll left, this is dampened by the wings and increases with power level. |
What is Spiral Slipstream? | A spiral of air flowing around the plane eventually contacting with the left sire of the rudder, created by the propeller increases with power creates yawing tendency to the left |
What is Gyroscope Precession? | 90º ahead in the direction of the rotation or on the right side causing the nose to want to turn left (Not felt as much in a tricycle airplane) |
What is Asymmetric loading of propeller (P-Factor)? | In a climb the descending propeller blade has a higher AOA which creates more lift causing the plane to yaw to the left, stronger with higher power and AOA |
What does stall speed increase proportionately with? | √ of load factor |
why does Va change with weight? | With a greater weight a greater AOA is needed to generate the the same lift, needing a higher maneuvering speed to maintain stable flight |
What are the steps to recover form a spin? | PARE Power idle Ailerons neutral Ruder opposite Elevator Down |
What are the main types of Illusions ? | Inversion Coriolis Elevator |
Special VFR Requirements | 91.157 ATC Clearance, clear of clouds, flight visibility of at least 1 stature mile, between sunrise and sunset, aircraft equipped in accordance with 91.205, can only take off or land if ground visibility is at least 1 stature mile |
Light Gun signals ( CFR FAR#) | 91.125 |
what is the aircraft speed limit under 10,000 FT | 91.117 250 knots |
When is the 1,1,1 rule applicable for distance from clouds in VFR flight? | In E and G airspace above 10,000 MSL 1000 feet above and below 1SM next to |
When is the 1,2,5 rule applicable for distance from clouds in VFR flight? | In C, D, E, and, G at night and G during the day above 1200 AGL 1000 Ft above, 2000Ft to the side and 500Ft below clouds |
When must you be clear of clouds in VFR flight? | in Class B airspace and class G below 1200 AGL |
What is the Acronym for Special use air spaces? | M Military operations MOA not prohibited but unwise C Controlled firing area Non-regulatory P Prohibited can not enter R Restricted Extremely hazardous invisible threats A Alert Flight Training W Warning N National Security Voluntary avoid |
What is CFR 14 FAR Section 1 | Abbreviations |
What is CFR 49 FAR Section 43 | Maintenance |
What is CFR 49 FAR Section 61 | Certifications Pilots and Instructors |
What is CFR 49 FAR Section 91 | General operating and flight rules |
What is CFR FAR Section 71 | Airspaces A B C D and E |
What are the NOTAM categories? | Notice To AirMen D- Domestic NOTAM FDC-flight Restriction Military NOTAM |
When Can you check the ELT? | at 5 minutes past each hour |
what is the purpose of fuel tank vents? | prevents a vacuum from being formed as the fuel level decreases |
what type of fuel does a 152 require | 100LL and is blue |
what color is Jet A fuel | colorless or straw |
What does a manual primer do | Pulls fuel from the fuel strainer and injects it directly into the cylinder intake port to help the engine start easier |
how does cabin heat work | fresh air, heated by exhaust shroud is directed to the cabin |
What is the ELT | Emergency location transmitter |
What is AOA | Angle of attack, Between chord line and relative wind |
