Connective Tissue Structure widely separated by extra cellular matrix
White fibers contain collagen and gives fibers elasticity and strength
Yellow fibers contain elastin, are more elastic than white fibers but not as strong
Reticular fibers highly branched fibers that provide support
Loose connective tissue lies between organs or other tissues, contains white and yellow fibers
fibroblasts large-star shaped cells
Adipose tissue form of connective tissue that stores fat and provides insulation and protection
Regular dense connective tissue parallel bundles of fibers found in tendons/ligaments
Irregular dense connective tissue fibers run in different directions, found in inner portion of skin
Cartilage Hyaline, fibrous, elastic
Hyaline cartilage found on bone ends
Fibrous cartilage contains non-elastic fibers and found in ear
Elastic cartilage contains yellow elastic fibers and found in ACL
Bones most rigid connective tissue
Types of bone compact and spongy
Blood connective tissue suspended in liquid matrix (plasma)
Red blood cells erythrocytes, carries oxygen
White Blood Cells leukocytes, fights infection
Platelets fragment of giant cells in bone marrow
