ES 208 Test 1
Basic Biomechanics
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Biomechanics | application of mechanical physics to human motion |
Statics | no moving systems |
Dynamics | moving systems |
Kinetics | forces that act on the body (gravity, friction, pressure) |
Kinematics | analysis of movement in terms of mechanical elements (time, space, and mass) |
Force | an influence that causes an object to undergo change |
Inertia | resistance to motion |
Mass | the amount of matter in an object |
Torque | force of rotation about an axis |
Momentum | mass x velocity |
Newton's First Law | An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. (Law of Inertia) |
Newton's Second Law | F=ma (Law of Acceleration) |
Newton's Third Law | For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction (Law of Reaction) |
