Personal Information Account numbers, usernames, passwords, home addresses, and personal phone numbers do not belong in business or school emails
Phishing An email that seems to look like something official (like a bank or business), and links to a website that asks you to disclose personal information
Spam Junk email. Usually advertisements
Cc: Other recipients of an email whose addresses are shown
Bcc: Recipients of an email whose address is hidden
Irony and Sarcasm Avoid using trying to be funny in an email since the reader can't hear your voice, facial expression, or body language so you make your meaning clear
Profanity Avoid cursing in email as it's unprofessional and may result in disciplinary action
Proofreading Always check your document for correct spelling, spacing, grammar, and punctuation before sending it
Attachments Some emails have other files you can download with them. Don't download or open these files if you don't know who sent the message
Email Setup Make sure email accounts you use for work (or school) don't have extreme names
Recipient The person that gets a letter or email
Being Discreet Keeping private opinions or information to yourself
Politeness Communicating with others respectfully
Standard Parts Be sure to include the 6 standard parts of an email, and in the right order and format
Clarity Make sure your message is clear and easily understood
Formatting Don't make lots of formatting changes since it makes reading your email more difficult
Signature Limit the number of contact methods you provide to ones you actually want the reader to respond with
Caps Lock All caps seems like shouting to the reader. Makes the message more difficult to read
Chain Emails Don't forward messages that aren't useful to the reader as the original sender may just be trying to spam them later
