What is external respiration? exchange gases between blood and the air
What is internal respiration? exchange between blood and tissues
How does gas move? by diffusion

What happens as CO2 builds up in the blood? it becomes acidic
What are the folds in the nose called? concha
What gets trapped in the concha? pollen and dust
What does the larynx prevent? it prevents food and water from getting into the lungs
What covers the larynx? the epiglottis
What is phonation? allow animal to make sound, vocal cords
What is the trachea made of? rings of cartilage
What does the trachea lead to? the primary bronchi
What does the primary bronchi lead to? the bronchioles
What are the alveoli? where the gas exchange takes place
What happens if there is a hole in the thoracic cavity? if there is no vacuum, the lungs will collapse - pneumothorax
When do you burn energy? during inspiration
What happens when you breathe to quickly? alkalitic
