Computer structure
Term | Definition |
---|---|
CPU | Central processing unit ->Control Unit controls the flow of data around the cpu ->Arithmrtic & Logic Unit (ALU) wich does the calculations and make decisions ->Registers: temporary storage locations |
Main Memory | RAM (Random access Memory) and ROM (Read only memory) |
Ram | RAM (Random access Memory) |
ROM | ROM (Read only memory) |
static RAM | keeps the content so long as power us maintained to the chip advantage: faster access |
Dynamic Ram | refreshed every few milliseconds by rewriting Advantage: cheaper to run and needs less power |
Buses: | Transfer Datas |
Data Bus | transfor the data between main memory and the cpu the biger the more data can be transferred |
Address Bus | brings the data where something is stored in the main memory to the cpu |
Control Bus | This is not really a bus at all as it contains several wirs which perform different functions: e.g. Read, Write, Interrupt, Non maskable intrript, reset, clock |
The fetch execute cycle (read from memory) | 1) The address of the memory location to be accessed is placed on the address bus by the processor 2)Readline is activated on the control bus 3)Data put on the data bus 4)Instruction is decoded and executed |
Cache memory | Small fast RAM memory between main memory and the processor or on the processor. |
