Computer structure

TermDefinition
CPU Central processing unit ->Control Unit controls the flow of data around the cpu ->Arithmrtic & Logic Unit (ALU) wich does the calculations and make decisions ->Registers: temporary storage locations
Main Memory RAM (Random access Memory) and ROM (Read only memory)
Ram RAM (Random access Memory)
ROM ROM (Read only memory)
static RAM keeps the content so long as power us maintained to the chip advantage: faster access
Dynamic Ram refreshed every few milliseconds by rewriting Advantage: cheaper to run and needs less power
Buses: Transfer Datas
Data Bus transfor the data between main memory and the cpu the biger the more data can be transferred
Address Bus brings the data where something is stored in the main memory to the cpu
Control Bus This is not really a bus at all as it contains several wirs which perform different functions: e.g. Read, Write, Interrupt, Non maskable intrript, reset, clock
The fetch execute cycle (read from memory) 1) The address of the memory location to be accessed is placed on the address bus by the processor 2)Readline is activated on the control bus 3)Data put on the data bus 4)Instruction is decoded and executed
Cache memory Small fast RAM memory between main memory and the processor or on the processor.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
