| Internet | All the physical devices that hold and transmit the web |
| World Wide Web | Billions of connected web pages and services |
| Browser | Software that lets us view and navigate web pages |
| Search Engine | A website that catalogs the contents of other web pages |
| Hyperlink | Code that connects electronic documents |
| Spider | Software (a bot) that searches through the contents of other webpages |
| Keywords | Words you use to search through web pages |
| Search terms | Same as keywords |
| “ “ | Quotation marks. Used to search for a specific phrase |
| – | Minus sign. Used to exclude words from search results |
| Bias | A strong opinion that leads the source to present information that is inaccurate, incomplete or one-sided |
| Agenda | Something a source is trying to accomplish, perhaps using biased information |
| Relevant | Related to the focus of a search |
| Trustworthy | Able to be trusted. Credible |
| Reliable | Able to be relied on. Credible |
| .gov domain | A government-sponsored website--generally considered trustworthy |
| .edu domain | An education-sponsored website--generally considered reliable |
| .org domain | A non-profit organization--may have an agenda or bias. Research further before using |
| .com domain | A commercial or business-sponsored site--may have an agenda or bias. Research further before using |
| .net domain | A network or business-sponsored site--may have an agenda or bias. Research further before using |
