When the question word qui (who) is the subject of a sentence , it is followed directly by a verb. The verb in this case is always third person singular. Qui invite Patrice a diner? Who is inviting Patrice to dinner? Qui n'aime pas dancer? Who doesn't like to dance?

When the question word qui (whom) is the object of a sentence, it's followed by est-ce que or inversion Qui est-ce que tu regardes? Whom are you looking at? or the reverse Qui regardes-tu?

Although quand? and a quelle heure? can be translated as when? in English they are not interchange able in French. Use quand to talk about a day or date, and a quelle heure to talk about a specific time of day. Quand est-ce que le cours commence? When does the class start?

A quelle heure est-ce qu'il commence? At what time does it begin?
Il commence le lundi 28 aout. It starts Monday August 28 (vingt-huit?)
Il commence a dix heures et demie. It starts at 10:30.

quoi? (what?) must immediately follow a preposition in order to be used with est-ce que or inversion type of sentences.
If not preposition is necessary then place quoi after the verb
A quoi pensez-vous? What are you thinking about?
Elle etudie quoi? What does she study?
De quoi est-ce qu'il parle? What is he talking about?
Tu regardes quoi? What are you looking at?
Use Comment? or Pardon? To indicate that you don't understand what's being said. You may also use Quoi? but only in informal situations with friends.
Vous allez voyager cette annee? Are you going to travel this year?
Comment? I beg your pardon?
The interrogative adjective quel means what or which? It varies in gender and number with the noun it modifies.
Quel restaurant aimes-tu? Which restaurant do you like?
Quelle montre a-t-il? What watch does he have?
Quels cours comencent a dix heures? What classes start at ten o'clock?
Quelles filles vont a la boite de nuit? Which girls are going to the nightclub?
