QuestionAnswer
Allegory A metaphor where all elements of a story have both a literal and symbolic meaning
Alliteration Repetition of consonant sounds in neighboring words
Allusion A brief reference to famous person, place, thing, or work of art
Analogue A character, scene, or event that resembles one found in another literary work
Anaphora Repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of several sentences
Antagonist Opposing force against the protagonist
Anthropomorphism When human traits are given to animals or non-living things
Apostrophe When the speaker speaks to something non-human that may or may not be present
Aside A short speech made by a character, only heard by the audience
Assonance A vowel sound repeated
Authorial Voice When the author voices their opinions through a character
Ballad A story in poetic form about tragic love, usually sung
