Alliteration | Repetition of consonant sounds in neighboring words |
Allusion | A brief reference to famous person, place, thing, or work of art |
Analogue | A character, scene, or event that resembles one found in another literary work |
Anaphora | Repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of several sentences |
Antagonist | Opposing force against the protagonist |
Anthropomorphism | When human traits are given to animals or non-living things |
Apostrophe | When the speaker speaks to something non-human that may or may not be present |
Aside | A short speech made by a character, only heard by the audience |
Assonance | A vowel sound repeated |
Authorial Voice | When the author voices their opinions through a character |
Ballad | A story in poetic form about tragic love, usually sung |
