Parts of a Computer

TermDefinition
Power Supply The power supply converts alternating high voltage current (AC) into direct current (DC).
Input Device Keyboard, Mouse, Joy stick, scanner, microphone. Item to Computer.
Output Device Headphones, Projector, Monitor, Printer. Computer to Item.
Motherboard It holds and allows communication between many of the crucial electronic components of a system.
CPU ( Central Processing Unit ) The central processing unit is a part of the computer that retrieves and executes instructions. The "brain" of the computer.
Video Card/ Graphics Processing Unit/ GPU Specialized processor originally designed to accelerate graphics rendering.
RAM (Random Access Memory) Hardware in a computing device where the operating system application programs in current use are kept so they can be quickly reached by the device's processor.
Hard Disk Drive ( HDD ) An electro-mechanical data storage device that stores and retrieves digital data using magnetic storage. Spins.
Solid State Drive (SSD) Solid-state storage device that uses integrated circuit assemblies to store data persistently.
