Week 10 Physiology

TermDefinition
Angina condition due to chest pain, normally on exertion. Diagnosed and often prescribed nitroglycerin.
Atherosclerosis disease in the arteries, accumulation of fatty material (plaque) on the arterial walls.
atrial fibrillation an irregular and can be rapid heart rhythm. Considered an arrhythmia. Rapid a-fib will need interventions.
bradycardia Heart beating too slow. Marked as lower than 60 BPM.
tachycardia Heart beating too fast. Marked above 120 BPM.
ischemia Lack/blockage of oxygen to part of the body
Congestive Heart failure chronic disease of the heart. The heart isn't pumping blood as it should.
echocardiography An ultrasound to check how your heart is pumping and it's rhythm.
nitroglycerin A drug that is a vasodilator. Often prescribed with angina.
pericardial effusion A buildup of too much fluid in the pericardium.
myocardial infarction Commonly referred to as a heart attack.
coronary artery disease when plaque buildup makes it difficult for your coronary arteries to supply blood flow to your heart.
C Reactive Protein A protein marker tied to the inflammation in your body.
